How is glass made?

In principle, glass consists of liquid sand. Yes, really!

Ordinary sand is heated until it melts and turns into a liquid.

Usually it is mixed with chemicals such as sodium carbonate to lower the melting point and save energy.

Once the sand is melted, it is poured into various molds to make the final product. These can be bottles and jars (and glass drinking straws!), and in some cases the material is blown for various special shapes
